  • Evil computers with goatees in Parallel Universes
Posted on Friday, February 09 @ 16:14:00 CST by Talon

Manowar According to this article a company out of British Columbia is going to demo the first working Quantum Computer next week. I read the Wikipedia article and I can safely say I have no real understanding of how a quantum processor works. It appears that it can break almost any crypto code instantly by processing 'qubits' simultaneously in multiple parallel universes. If this thing is real it might very well be the most significant development in technology this decade.

In the case of a single particle system in three dimensions, the state can be described by a complex-valued function defined on R3 (three-dimensional space) called a wave function. As described in the article on quantum mechanics, this function has a probabilistic interpretation; of particular significance is that quantum states can be in a superposition of the basis states. The time evolution of the system state vector is assumed to be unitary, meaning that it is reversible.

That pretty much sums it up right there.
